Last year, Sosi contacted me for her October wedding. She told me that she needed her invitations to be both in English and Armenian. I was booked. But I had had this invitation in my head forever and I emailed her back and agreed to do her wedding. When I met with her and her mother, I think I had more fun at that consult then any other one I've ever had. Armenian invitations are traditionally done as a folded card - with the Armenian on one side and the English on the other. They were so excited when I tried to tell them my idea. Instead of being stuck with tradition and what they knew, Karen and Sosi were giddy with the idea that their guests would get something totally new.
I am thrilled to introduce this new invitation. I layered a piece of vellum on top of a panel invitation. It was designed with precision so that the lines of text are both visible - with the Armenian on top and the English underneath. I got the opportunity to use new printed vellum with matching rsvp postcards and even printed envelope liners. The subtle cream and butter colors are rich together and the one hint of color - a tiny brown ribbon that knots to hold the pieces together. A sash with the guest's names wraps around her inserts, including this wonderful map.
I used the Armenian words for Response, Reception and Map on the pieces to continue the Armenian throughout each piece. This invitation could be used for any language, but there is something so wonderful about the characters in the Armenian language that made these so special to me - oh and to Sosi and Aram of course.
So thanks to another bride (and her mother) who had really no idea what I was doing and trusted me to make these amazing invitations.
